Did you know that depression has been found to cause an increase in rapid kidney decline?
In a recent study by the American Society of Nephrology, researchers have found that individuals with high depressive symptoms had a 39% greater risk of rapid decline in kidney function. Suffering from depressive symptoms can put the immune system at risk and this could be one of the potential cause for rapid kidney decline. However, other factors like, lack of health literacy, delayed health care seeking and making poor lifestyle choices due to disruption of social interaction and physical activity could also lead to a decline in kidney function.
