‘Singapore cannot fully rely on hemodialysis’, said CEO of NKF Singapore (The National Kidney Foundation), Tim Oei.

With the rising number of renal failure cases, hospitals and dialysis centers do not have enough capabilities and resources to cope. To address this grave issue, the Ministry of Health (Singapore) is pushing for #PeritonealDialysis (PD) preferred approach for patients who are eligible for this treatment option. ‘The ministry aims to get 30% of new dialysis patients on PD by 2025’, said Health Minister Ong Ye Kung in the opening speech at ISPD (International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis) earlier this year. 

As an at-home treatment, Peritoneal dialysis allows patients to regain the freedom they lost due to strict schedules of in-center dialysis.
