Did you know that Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) occurs in 13% to 50% of patients with rhabdomyolysis? A study done by National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) found that 47.7% of 2,371 rhabdomyolysis patients developed AKI.
Rhabdomyolysis is a syndrome resulting from the release of a protein called myoglobin into the bloodstream due to muscle fiber deaths. The condition commonly occurs from overexertion during exercise.
This can result in renal failure as myoglobin breaks down into substances that can damage kidney cells.
It is important to be wary of the early symptoms of rhabdomyolysis and to pay close attention to your body if you feel unwell.
